The cast film extrusion process is one of the core technologies of modern plastic film manufacturing, widely used in food packaging, agricultural coverings, medical materials and other fields. The process can efficiently produce film products with uniform thickness and excellent performance by extruding the molten plastic and rapidly cooling and molding it.
The process begins with raw material preparation. Plastic pellets (e.g. polyethylene, polypropylene) are mixed with the necessary additives and fed into the extruder. Inside the extruder, the raw material is heated, melted and homogenized to form a homogeneous melt. This process is extremely demanding in terms of temperature control and often requires staged heating to ensure that the plastic is fully molten without degradation.
The molten plastic is then extruded through a precision-designed T-shaped die to form a film-like fluid. The design of the die head directly affects the thickness uniformity and surface quality of the film. The extruded melt is immediately guided to the surface of the cooling rolls, where it is solidified by rapid cooling. The temperature and speed of the cooling rolls need to be precisely controlled to ensure the flatness and transparency of the film.
After being cooled and formed, the film undergoes a thickness gauge to check its thickness and is stretched by means of draw rollers to adjust its mechanical properties. Finally, the film is wound into rolls for easy storage and transportation. The entire process is highly automated and continuous, significantly improving production efficiency and product quality.
The advantages of the cast film extrusion process are its efficiency and flexibility. By adjusting the process parameters, films with different thicknesses and properties can be produced to meet diversified market demands. In addition, the process is also able to realize multi-layer co-extrusion to produce composite films with special functions such as barrier and heat resistance.
With the continuous progress of materials science and process technology, cast film extrusion process is moving towards a more efficient, more environmentally friendly direction. In the future, this technology will continue to promote the innovation and upgrading of the plastic film industry, providing better packaging and functional material solutions for various industries.
